Ode to 2006

No one reads this anymore, but it's a tradition I've had for a little, so I have to continue it.

2005

Dear 2006,

You can kiss my ass. Actually, no that's inappropriate. We just need to get you some pills. you've definently proved to me that years can have mental issues, including manic depressive and scizophrenia. You were at times amazing, some of the best, and at times possibly the worst. You started off not too bad, not great, but not bad. You went up and down slightly, then once you hit mid way you were up and down.

You would do things like give me a birthday. And over said birthday weekend, made it the absolute worst 70 hour period of my life, which I will always consider that birthday. You gave me some feeling of accomplishment with the semi-completion of my film, you introduced me to some people that will change my life forever, you set me up so 2007 could be a great year. You were also kind of a dick for about 5 months there. Just saying.

I can honestly say that in 2006 I slept the least that I ever have. Between the 4 days in the steenbeck lab, to the summer, to the end of this semester, even Brandon was wondering how I can function on such little sleep. That's just my long winded way of saying that 2006 has been a test. I survived, I made it out of you. I'm stronger, I think. I'm wiser, I think. I guess the only way is to see 2007. Which has to be good. You just have to.

So farewell 2006,

Please never write or call,

XoXo,

Asher

5. New Mexico

New addition to the list, perhaps going to move up.

I should watch High Fidelity again. I like lists.

the great commercial debate

This commercial really bothers me

Ego?

However, this is one of my favorites :

Lonely

The VW one is just sad and sort of mean and depressing. I also find it sort of haunting.

The Sprint is amazing. So adorable.

I can't find my favorite commercial though. The Sprint one with the little white boy that belts out "Seven PPMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"

Brings a smile to my heart

My life, the music video

So I'm walking home last night at like 4am, turn on my mp3 player and the recently added "We can be Heroes" by the Wallflowers comes on (thanks for Alex for getting it to me).

And it just flowed, beat wise, while I was walking down the empty sea port.

"I...I wish you could swim" - look out on to the river
"I...I will be King" - A construction worked turned and looked up at me with an American flag helmet
"Nothing will drive them away" - cockroach skitters about the ground

Then at the big finale, I overlook a great skyline of the city. It was very fun. And weird.

So, to pat myself on the back --
The semester ended, and I have completed :
- A feature screenplay "The Contingency 4"
- A spec for My Name is Earl "Earl the Artist"
- A 1 act play "The Gaucherie"
- 5 short films, ranging from crap to crappier to decent. "Little Chinatown", "Buzz the Bug", "Poker", "The Artiste", and "Roulette"
- 2 One Acts, "Frozen", "All In"
- Rewritten feature "In"

Busy bee. For the summer - shoot "Contingency 4", make sure "In" goes well, finish writing "HFStival" OR write "Untitled Asher Novek project", possibly shoot another short in August with good man Jesse Garrison possibly written by Dan Moyer.
This could all change if I go to Africa, which isn't possible...unless you're reading this Nick Kristof. In which case, hi.

good times

Late, but necessary

Greetings asher --

Here is your horoscope for Saturday, April 24, 2004:

Today's heavenly line up calls for a wonderful evening. All you really have to
do is show up. There's not much you can do wrong -- unless you choose to argue
unnecessarily with someone about a matter that's long gone.

Greetings asher --

Here is your horoscope for Sunday, April 24, 2005:

One particular relationship -- the one you've been feeling rather iffy about
lately -- is about to come to a head now. This doesn't necessarily mean things
will go badly, however. Anything's possible.

Dear Asher,
Here is your horoscope for Monday, April 24, 2006:

You can tell when someone's put real thought and skill into something, so don't backslide on a project no matter what. Here's a chance to really strut your stuff in front of people who count, so make the most of it.

How can I make myself happy?
It had to be You (Ella Fitzgerald & Louie Armstrong) - find myself a nice jazz emsemble, basically.

Will I ever have children?
The Freshman (Mustard plug cover) - um...did I concieve a child freshman year without knowing it? Uh oh...

What is some good advice for me?
My Name is Jonas (Weezer) - that's not true at all.

Who will I marry?
Chump (Green Day) - Hey, screw you.

My summer love forecast:

update

Passover is good. But it makes me hungry. If I'm cranky of the next few days, it's cause I will not have had a decent meal in about 5 days.

Other than that, it's good.

I saw a car accident at home. No one was injured. It was an interesting moment.

I got my gun today. It took a lot of fenegaling. I am now cooking play doh for a bullet.

The next 10 days are going to be hell. Hell on a stick.

Let's do it

I guess that makes 11 now

Narrator: And there is the account of the hanging of three men, and a scuba diver, and a suicide. There are stories of coincidence and chance, and intersections and strange things told, and which is which and who only knows? And we generally say, "Well, if that was in a movie, I wouldn't believe it." Someone's so-and-so met someone else's so-and-so and so on. And it is in the humble opinion of this narrator that strange things happen all the time. And so it goes, and so it goes. And the book says, "We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us.

My Name is Asher

I would like to tell you a story about why karma is real, and consquentley why I love My Name is Earl

So last night at Around the Clock, I take my order and I ask the lady to give me a separate check cause I didnt have much cash and wanted to pay with my credit card. So she writes me a separate check. Then when we want to leave she only gives us the main check, and not mine. Instead of skipping out on the bill, I asked her for my check and paid for my meal.

Today, I'm at McDonald's ordering lunch and I order some cookies. Now, through some miscommunication at the busy lunch hour, I ended up with 2 sets of cookies, only paying for 1. I call these Karma Kookies. However, still not wanting to be on the bad side of Karma, I gave these cookies away to me co-workers here at ITP.

Now, some of you might think that karma has nothing to do with this. Maybe God just felt bad for me and thought I could use some extra cookies today. Maybe you can attribute this to the lady at McDonald's. Whatever you want to think, I still agree with my friend Earl when he says "I'm Karma's bitch."

Oh, and as for more good karma I'm getting (to make up for the bad karma) I got into GHo with B louk. Let the good times start rolling again karma

FROZEN

Play #2 done.

I finished it earlier, around 5:15, the song was "The Decline" NoFx, and have done some touch ups which are now done now around 1:45 with "La Vie Bohem", ironic how that works.

"Frozen" the story I've been trying to write since like last fall, started over summer break, stopped, picked up again and now just finished in a 2 day rampage once I got past one big block. It wasn't an easy to play to write, for an infinite number of reasons, and will not be easy to reread ever again, so I'm just going to print it out and hope it doesn't get selected for New Works.

my break -- update

Poker Update --

Played at Morengo Casino, Indian Casino.
First time in a Casino, I played 1/3 NL Hold Em and dominated. Probably the best overall poker I've ever played, at least the best I've played in recent history. Biggest pot of my life -- I have AK on the button, 2 raises to 10 dollars in front of me, I call. Flop is KK10. I bet, guy stares me down and calls. This punk Asian guy who was bullied around in some previous hands. Other guy folds, Turn is a Q. I bet 20, no hesitation, he calls. River a 2. I wait a while, stare at him. I shake my hand as I bet 25. He pushes all in for 15 more, I call. He has JJ, I take in the pot. A pot of roughly 150. Dollars. I exhale and he leaves the table, and at that moment the regulars see me as a real player, not some 18 year old punk. Ended the night up 80 and left making some friends and respect. Good times

New Year's Resolution

Finish what I start

I have two full features that I have started and intend to finish (IN, HFSTIVAL), and one intended to start in the near future. I have a one act (FROZEN) and a play (ALL IN) that I have also started, and one may be written in class.
I have also decided right now to write something called YOUR SONG, based on the Elton John song. I don't know what, but I will write it.

On a higher level, I have plans, things I have set out in my mind as a TO DO List (Yes, there's a real list not just on my pants) and I will push forward to do so. Even if it's harder, I have to push harder.

And I need to pay attention more. Sometimes there are things that slip by that needed to get noticed before and for whatever reason they weren't. This is also finishing, or at least not slipping at the finish.

Super Spandex Boy, over and out

Narrator "He may have been handy with a blade, but he's not too sharp with conversation"

On the bus -- Girl #1 : Do you guys believe in ghosts?
Girl #2 : Yeah, this one time I saw this guy sitting there on a chair, with like a bag in his hand, and I like knew, KNEW that there was a head in that bag. I've been able to see ghosts ever since.
Girl #1 : (shocked face)

Also, Ana, 19, who was Nexted on the show by a dumbass skater, if you somehow read this, call me, I love you

poker update

Online tourny -- $3 buy in : 31/2083 = +13
Fun, I outlasted way longer than I should have, making sure I cashed in each payout level. One was literally like 20 spots to gain 1 cent. I was like...what.
Statistically my best performance, although my play and payout tend to disagree.
